Scientists learn more every day
about effective treatments for different types of cancer.
As advances are made in treating the disease, new therapies
are developed. By participating in National Cancer Institute
(NCI) sponsored cooperative clinical trials such as Radiation
Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG), Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG)
and American College of Surgeons (ACOS) research groups, the
Cancer Institute of New Mexico can offer patients the newest
approaches to cancer care while providing them with the best
current standard treatment.
Technology plays a pivotal role in effectively
diagnosing and treating cancer. CINM will be the only facility
in northern New Mexico to offer the latest imaging and radiation
therapy equipment. This technology includes PET/CT fusion,
which provides detailed images of anatomy and metabolic processes
and is hailed as an important advance for the cancer diagnosis.
Other state-of-the-art treatments that include Intensity Modulated
Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and new chemo regimens, will optimize
treatment , and offer patients more and better treatment options.
In this facility the combination of clinical
research, with it's access to promising chemotherapy drugs,
state-of-the-art radiologic diagnostic imaging and the latest
Radiation Therapy Techniques (IMRT), will provide access to
the most comprehensive cancer care in Northern New Mexico.
